In short: we don’t collect or store anything you do on this site, except a message you choose to send us through the contact form. The compass quiz runs entirely in your browser; your answers and results are never sent to us, and they are forgotten when you close the tab.
EarthElect’s electoral compass quiz
- Your answers stay in your browser. The quiz works out your result on your own device. Nothing you answer is sent to our server or anyone else.
- Only for this visit. While you browse the site in the same tab, your progress and result are kept in your browser’s session storage, so you can open the Compass tab on any of the electoral projection models and see where you sit without re-uploading anything. When you close the tab or window, your browser deletes them.
- Keeping a result is up to you. “Save results file” and “Download report” create files on your own device. We never receive them. Loading a results file back in reads it in your browser only.
- Share links. “Copy link to my results” puts your answers in the part of the address after the
#, which browsers do not send to the server. Anyone you give the link to can see your answers, so only share it if you’re happy with that.
Visiting the site
- No accounts, no tracking cookies, no ads. We don’t set cookies.
- Standard web logs. Like any website, our hosting provider and Cloudflare (which delivers and protects the site) automatically process basic technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to serve the site and keep it secure. Our host uses these logs for anonymous visitor statistics. We don’t use them to identify you.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to tell people and bots apart.
Contact form
- What you send is emailed to us. Your name, your message and, if you give it, your email address are sent as an email to the person who runs the site, so they can read it and reply. Your email address is optional.
- Not kept on the website. The site doesn’t store messages. To stop spam it briefly keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address and the times you sent messages, for one hour.
Election data
The models use public election results and published opinion polls (for example from Wikipedia and polling companies). None of it is personal data about visitors.
